Summary of the Position:

The School Principal must be knowledgeable of and assume responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the initial set up of the PreK-K6 grade program, upholding the vision, mission and core values of Badminton School Korea.

The Principal manages the daily operations of the school and leads the faculty in meeting the overall objectives of the school, including the needs of teachers, students, and families. Initially the school will be set up to manage the educational journey of Grades K-K6, with the intention of expanding to PreK-K9 over the next 2/3 years. The Principal will be responsible for guiding and initiating this growth and expansion. As well as being the administrative and instructional leader, they will provide leadership in the operation and growth of the school and will establish and maintain a caring, productive environment for students and faculty. They must perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to the ultimate benefit of the entire educational program.

Successful candidates must be well versed in educational pedagogy, experienced and supportive of

standards-based curriculum, and able to collaborate with students and faculty to create a climate which fosters student and teacher growth. They should promote a visible team spirit amongst staff and sustain a pioneering approach to education as set out by the Badminton School’s founder, Mrs Miriam Badock in 1858.

Preferred Qualifications, Experience and Qualities:

· Principal certification or comparable credential;

· A bachelor’s degree alongside QTS;

· Master’s degree in educational leadership (preferred);

· Held a SLT position for a minimum of 5 years (preferred);

· Experience in a leadership position in international education (preferred);

· Demonstrated ability in leading people, managing processes, and improving learning;

· Knowledge of best practices in curriculum, assessment, pedagogy, and data driven decision-making;

· Evidence of a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion in a school setting;

· Outstanding human relations skills;

· Genuine interest in and concern for students, student learning and student development;

· Strong organizational and technology skills;

Key Responsibilities

Personnel

· Manage and lead the Senior Leadership Team;

· Plan and oversee the School staffing;

· Maintain healthy communication with faculty and staff members.

· Update faculty and staff regarding policy and procedures.

· Make recommendations to the Board regarding contract renewals and dismissals.

· Consult with Board on areas of recruiting and hiring new elementary/secondary teachers.

· Consult and make decisions in a spirit of cooperation with other administrative team members to assist in developing general daily operations, procedures, and policy.

· Oversee the calendar and school events

Supervision

· Plan and provide portions of teacher orientation (for new and returning staff), elementary/secondary teacher in-service, and end-of-the year checkout routine.

· Appoint and direct staff regarding extra-curricular activities and duties beyond classroom responsibilities (morning recess, lunch/recess duty, special assemblies, clubs, etc.)

· Lead department meetings and submit all agendas and minutes to the Board, including meeting regularly with the faculty for planning, communication, and goal setting.

· Complete at least one, written, formal observation of teachers (more for new teachers) which would emphasize the use and implementation of curriculum, classroom management, and the quality of the learning environment. May vary during virtual learning. This may include working with other administrators to be able to complete the observation of all faculty.

· Provide leadership to teachers for evaluation and upgrade of curriculum and programs.

· Direct various communications to the appropriate staff or department.

· Advocate for (and/or recommend to the Board) all items/provisions necessary to ensure teaching environment where teachers have everything necessary to successfully carry out the curriculum requirements (physical plant, student desks, supplies, curriculum support, etc.).

· Encourage staff development to improve the effectiveness of the instructional program.

· Assign a current teacher to each new teacher as a mentor.

Instructional Leadership

· Oversee the implementation of an innovative, relevant and ambitious curriculum and timetable;

· Schedule and prepare professional development activities/topics for the staff, along with administrative team including leading and overseeing INSET days.

· Guide the faculty in continuous curriculum evaluation and development.

· Ensure that teaching and learning is being monitored and reviewed through having an oversight of planning and implementation and ensuring the marking policy is being adhered to.

Student Responsibilities

· Keep abreast of all safeguarding concerns in the School and ensure that all measures are followed and adhered to ensuring that students are protected and safe as per Korean guidelines,

· Interview students (if requested) who are in the admissions process and give input to the Registrar/Admissions Counselor. Serve as a member of the Admissions Committee.

· Oversee School’ rewards, sanctions and behaviour policy.

· Be available for parent meetings in a timely manner.

· Supervise and support the teaching staff to ensure appropriate and consistent student behaviour to foster a valid teaching and learning environment.

· Work with the school Counselor in assessing students who are struggling and developing a plan of action.

· Oversee Parent and Teacher Conferences including supporting scheduling and translation services.

Public Relations

· Use their utmost endeavours to promote the interests and reputation of Badminton School Korea;

· Uphold the School’s vision and values, policies and practices.

· Actively manage the recruitment of pupils into the School and leading and liaising with the marketing team as necessary;

· Develop and maintain a good rapport with parents, students, and leaders in the community.

· Provide continual communication to parents and students on school activities, norms, and policies.

· Participate in community activities and service/outreach when and where practical.

· Assist in the raising of capital or equipment for school projects and development

Buildings, Grounds, and Maintenance

· Supervise appropriate and satisfactory use of the school property and facilities.

· Ensure that the Health and Safety policy is implemented and adhered to including setting up and enabling risk assessments to be carried out and reviewed on a regular basis

· Ensure the building meets Ministry of Education checks and regulatory compliance

· Ensure teaching staff carry out regular health and safety checks/ risk assessments in their areas

Budget

· Oversee the school budget including classroom supplies and curricular supplements.

· Help with ordering as it relates to teacher supplies.

· Oversee ordering of supplies and distribution to classrooms in conjunction with the relevant SLT member.

Board

· Share and uphold the School’s vision and values, policies and practices with the Board

· Keep the Head of School and Board informed and updated about all matters relating to the School in a timely manner;

· Attend meetings with the Board and deliver a Principal’s Termly Report,

· Cooperate with other administrators in carrying out all Board policies and procedures.

· Oversee, receive, and collate all annual orders and submit them to Board.

· Attend all meetings scheduled by the Board.

· Assist the Board in accreditation review tasks.
