To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. What you will be doing


1. EHS Strategy Development & Execution:

  • Formulate and drive the implementation of comprehensive EHS strategies, policies, and objectives in alignment with corporate sustainability and operational goals.
  • Monitor global trends in EHS to anticipate and proactively address emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate directives, global EHS standards, and Umicore's sustainability initiatives.

2. Compliance & Regulatory Management:

  • Guarantee compliance with South Korea’s environmental, health, and safety laws, including K-OSHA, REACH, and other relevant regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to international EHS standards, such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • Represent the organization in interactions with regulatory authorities, industry groups, and community stakeholders.

3. Risk Management & Incident Response:

  • Identify, assess, and manage operational EHS risks across manufacturing plants, R&D facilities, and administrative offices.
  • Lead and coordinate investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses, including detailed root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Oversee emergency response planning, including fire safety, chemical spill management, and disaster preparedness.

4. Environmental Sustainability Leadership:

  • Spearhead initiatives to reduce the organization’s environmental footprint, including waste management, energy efficiency, and emissions control.
  • Collaborate with global teams to implement circular economy practices and contribute to Umicore’s net-zero goals.
  • Track and report key environmental metrics, ensuring transparency and accountability.

5. Safety Culture & Employee Engagement:

  • Foster a culture of safety accountability at all organizational levels through engagement, leadership visibility, and open communication.
  • Develop and oversee robust safety awareness programs, campaigns, and recognition initiatives.
  • Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and identify areas for improvement.

6. Training, Education & Team Development:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS training programs tailored to diverse employee needs, including senior leaders, front-line staff, and contractors.
  • Mentor and lead the EHS team, fostering a high-performance culture with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Conduct regular assessments of team skills and provide targeted development plans.

7. Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

  • Prepare and present regular EHS performance reports for senior leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement tools.
  • Drive the adoption of advanced technologies and data analytics to enhance EHS outcomes.

Who we are looking for


Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.


Experience

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in EHS leadership roles within industrial manufacturing, preferably in chemical, material science, or high-risk industrial sectors.
  • Proven track record of managing EHS in complex manufacturing environments with exposure to hazardous materials and processes.
  • Experience in managing global or regional EHS programs is a strong plus.

Certifications:

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent are highly desirable.
