Role Description

British Council Korea is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and dedicated Young Learner teacher to join our team. We value individuals who are committed to high teaching standards and professional growth. The ideal candidate is confident teaching learners aged 4 to 17 across all levels, with experience in phonics and literacy being a plus. This role supports the delivery of quality English teaching and effective learning, contributing to the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission.

Main Accountability

The role involves delivering high-quality English Language Teaching to young learners, ensuring lessons are engaging and meet their needs. It supports the British Council's reputation in global English Language Teaching, focusing on continuous professional development and using diverse resources and technologies. Adherence to policies like safeguarding, equality, and data protection is key. The role also includes maintaining positive relationships with students and colleagues, completing administrative tasks on time, and supporting the teaching center’s goals while upholding Teaching Quality standards.

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Essentials
    • High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
    • Required qualifications
      • Undergraduate/University degree
      • CELTA Or Trinity TESOL
    • Required experience: 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience in two or more of the following age groups:
      • Young learners aged 4 to 6 (400+ hours)
      • Young learners aged 7 to 11 (800+ hours)
      • Young learners aged 12 to 14 (400+ hours)
      • Young learners aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
  • Desirables
    • Qualifications
      • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma
      • PGCE in Primary/Secondary or equivalent
      • CELTYL or TYLEC
    • Experience
      • Experience of teaching Young Learners online

Important information

  • Contract type: Fixed-term contract
  • Contract length: 2 years
  • Renewable period : 1 year
  • Tentative Start date: August 2025
  • Salary package (gross per month): KRW 2,493,148 - KRW 3,123,233 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Housing allowance (gross): KRW 1,000,000 (one million Korean won) per month housing allowance.
  • Medical insurance: British Council teachers in Korea have the choice of either registering under the Korean National Health Insurance scheme or for private health insurance with our global provider
  • Annual paid leave is 35 days. In addition, there are 14 public holidays per year
  • For Teachers recruited from outside Korea:
    • Fares and travel: British Council will pay economy class air fares from your home country to Seoul at the start of contract and Seoul to your home country at the end of the successful completion of the contract. The British Council will also pay for the same incoming and outgoing air fare for spouse, partner, and/or children recognised via the Family Certificate and Partner Declaration Form.
    • Baggage allowance: £1,200 for single teachers; £2,000 for staff with accompanying partner and/or children.
    • Mobility allowances and support: Hotel stay up to 14 days, airport pick-up, help with housing agents, Settling-in allowance.
  • Additional information : For immigration and registration purposes, new teachers must:
    • Hold a passport from an English-speaking country as defined by Korean immigration services: UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
    • Candidates with an F-visa, of any nationality, can apply for this post if they have a university degree from one of the above-mentioned countries.
    • Provide an original undergraduate degree/MA certificate from one of the abovementioned English-speaking countries
    • Obtain an apostilled / verified criminal record check from country of nationality
    • Provide requested documentation to obtain local police checks from previous countries of employment, reference checks, employment checks and qualification checks over the past 10 years.
    • Pass a medical check-up in Korea, including an HIV and drugs test
